Doug Wilkes Videos
Over the course of the last few months, I have filmed Doug working on a variety of instruments.
These videos show Dougs incredible skill during the making of several guitars.

Quality components

I believe Shaller are making some of the best quality instrument parts available today.
When a customer specifies a tremolo on their custom build, you can not get better than Shaller tremolos.

Doug Wilkes can be seen here showing us the build of his classic Rainbow 'Slut', commissioned by Les from Canada. The guitar is now in Canada and the customer is having a great time playing his 'Slut'.

Doug explains what you can expect when you have an instrument made entirely by the human hand in a small professional workshop.

Doug can be seen here re-wiring a Hofner pick up using his custom winding machine.

This acoustic 5 string bass has been commissioned by Shaun Chivers just before christmas 2010. This is an absolutely lovely instrument, and the workmanship is fantastic. The whole body is totally carved, and there will even be a tummy cut, as the customer is approaching middle age. This video runs from early 2001 through to Doug handing the bass over to Shaun on the 12th September 2011.

Originally this guitar was planned to be based on like the 50th anniversary black custom Gibson, but after some thinking we decided to add some custom features based on the new Les Paul Axcess.
The custom additions are a cut away on the back of the guitar where the neck joins the body enabling easier access higher up. There is a gut cut for obvious reasons. Also, I may well be adding a Les Paul Schaller wammy bar.
The guitar has w/b/w/b/w/b/w edging on the body and the neck is also edged. The fingerboard is ebony and features dot inlays.
The headstock also has a walnut veneer and will be decorated with the Wilkes logo.

Chris Cliff commissioned Doug Wilkes to build him a 5 string bass.
Seen here is Chris playing the bass through a Fender guitar amp as he comes to collect the finished guitar.
